Vernon aims for World Indoor Final

Andy Vernon aims to make the final of the World Indoor Championships next month in Sopot, Poland.

In two weeks time Vernon will line up against some of the best athletes across the globe, aiming for the same thing, a World Championship final.

Vernon is keen to put the disappointment of last weekends Sainsbury’s Indoor Meeting behind him, where he finished 10th due to illness. After speaking to BBC Radio Solent he explained “at least I’ve got it out of my system and hopefully, come the World Indoors, I’ll be better”.

In the past, the 28 year old has been unfortunate with the British athletics selection policy and consequently missed out on other major events.

“I’ve had some harsh decisions in selection over the years, so haven’t got as much experience as I might have at this stage of my career, and I’m trying to build that up”.

Determined not to let his ‘inexperience’ effect his performance, he is focused on using the World Indoor Champs as a springboard for the outdoor circuit where he is aiming for a medal at both the Commonwealth Games and European Championship.

“The main reason I’m doing the World Indoors is for experience to take me on to the outdoor season.”

“But going into this year I have a decent chance of getting a medal in the European Championships and there’s the Commonwealth Games as well”
