Friday Food Guide – Hummus and Pitta Snack

Shopping List:

  • 425 grams of canned chickpeas
  • 1 fresh large lemon
  • 59 ml tahini
  • Half of a large garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt,
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons water
  • Dash of ground paprika for serving

Let’s get Preparing!

Pop the Tahini and lemon juice into your food processor and wizz-up for 1 minute, scrape the side and process for an additional 30 seconds.

Now add the olive oil, minced garlic, cumin and salt to the mix. Wizz-up for 30 seconds, scrape the sides and process for an additional 30 seconds.

Open your chickpeas, drain and rinse well with water. Pop half the chickpeas into the food processor and blend for 1 minute, scrape the sides and add the remaining chickpeas and process for 1-2 minutes until thick and quite smooth.

You may find the hummus is very thick or not all the chickpeas have been blended. If this is the case, slowly add 2-3 tablespoons of water until the consistency is correct.

Once you are happy with the consistency drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the top and sprinkle with paprika.

Cut up some carrots and Pitta bread to make the perfect healthy snack.
